Back to Basics
Finally, after over a year of being inactive, I have made a new knife.
My knife workshop isn’t finished yet, but it’s on it’s way. I just had to make a knife, so I figured that I was to make a very basic knife to get those skills working again. I will give the knife to the neighbours kid, who’s in the boy Scots. He has been very fascinated by my knives since he first saw them. It will be a good X-mas pressent for him
The blade is made by Steen Nielsen and it’s raw forged and with a slightly pointy nose.
The handle is curl birch, coloured with three different colours to bring out the “fire”. The pattern is really something in this piece of wood. The front of the handle is buffalo horn and nickel silver with a black spacer. The handle is oiled, waxed and polished to a hight gloss.
The sheath is wet moulded to fit the knife and is made out ot half tanned leather. Hand stitched of course!
Not active…..
As you can see the blog has not been updated for months, and it’s because I’m currently not active as a knife maker! I have in the last couple of months had several requests on custom projects, unfortunately I have had to decline them all. The reasons for not being active are two:
· I’m taking a Project management course at the university, expected to be finished this summer.
· I’m building a house for me and my family and a brand new knife workshop. You can check out the house project here www.hjelmgren.com/husblogg (the website is in Swedish, but there is a lot of pictures for those of you non Swedish viewers).
I therefore expect that I cannot start with the knife making until next fall. But don’t worry I have an urge for making knives and I’m really looking forward to get started again.

Married Couple
Normally I would say that I have a new knife ready. But this time I can say that I have a pair of knives ready. This pair is going to Canada where a couple who are about to get married are to receive them as wedding presents! I wish you guys all the luck and enjoy your knives!
Remember, when giving a way a knife as a present to someone, always make sure to give them a silver coin first, so they can buy the knife from you. It’s considered bad luck to give a way a knife!
